brief: interior design for a jewellery store

client: Henryka

Established in 2006 internet Jewellery retailer Henryka specialise in the sale of amber and silver jewellery. When they identified a prime location for a retail outlet in Hereford a decision was made to expand the business by opening a modest chain of jewellery stores. This meant a significant investment in shopfitting costs so it was important to get the look just right.

Design CLD were approached because of our expert knowledge in jewellery store design and jewellery display. Being involved at an early stage allowed us to advise Henryka on budget costs for shopfitting and how to display a large amount of product without making the shop appear cluttered.

Henryka wanted to ensure the competitively priced jewellery was as accessible as possible and also make the most of the translucency and colour of amber. This meant that jewellery was displayed on shelves rather than inside glass cases and also that the lighting helped to sell more by bringing the product to life.

The timescale of the project was short and we put together concept proposals just two weeks after appointment. The pale colour scheme of heritage greys and blues perfectly complemented the amber and silver jewellery. Many of the displays used backlighting and LED’s to enhance the transparency of the precious stone. We also created a unique display tower for men’s gifts specially designed with a small footprint to maximise space in a shop which at 455 square feet had limited room for circulation.

As the building was listed our proposals had to be cleared with the local authority and conservation officer. Design CLD applied for and obtained all necessary consents. Particularly in connection with the shopfront where we designed the fascia sign and window displays.

The attractive end result means that Henryka now have a successful trading format that can easily be rolled out into future locations.
