Flagship store design for the Original Shoe Company

Original Shoe Company approached us when they signed up for a prime site three floor retail unit in the heart of Glasgow. They needed an approachable and creative design company to oversee this and two other related projects. They were also about embark on a top to tail refurbishment of their existing 45 strong chain of fashion and shoe stores, as well as take possession of a new head office in Cumnock.

Design CLD provided experience in fashion retail design, combined with the knowledge of how to design a flagship store, upgrade existing stores, and link all the elements of their business together with a confident corporate identity.

The site, a listed building, presented a number of challenges requiring creative solutions. We designed a moulded GRP column cladding that turned the large number of structural columns into stylish merchandise displays. We configured the escalator and carefully located stairways to ensure that customers visited all parts of the store. We also developed a store directory and colour scheme to make it clear what was on offer on each floor.

Also, by designing unique merchandising units that made the most of Original Shoe’s product, we created exciting displays with high levels of stock.

The new logo is an integral part of the design scheme and is echoed in the shapes and colours that we've used throughout the store.

Location: flagship store in Argyle Street, Glasgow, Scotland. Upgraded stores throughout Scotland and the North of England.

Store size: approx. 10,000 sq. ft on three floors

To ensure flexibility, the same furniture, fixtures and fittings were utilised on every floor. However, by making use of a varied colour palette and a series of specially designed illustrations we were able to give each floor a distinctive identity and help customers make sense of the space.
