brief: Interior design for a foreign exchange office

client: Thomas Cook

The wedding of prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton on the 29th of April 2011 was a red letter day for the UK and London in particular, a great opportunity for the country to show how well we can put on a show and put our best foot forward. It also provided the backdrop to a fast track project undertaken by Design CLD on behalf of Thomas Cook.

The site, a converted Victorian public toilets at in the heart of London’s theatre land, had been secured by Encore Tickets for use as a theatre ticket agency. They envisaged a multi use space selling not only theatre tickets but also sightseeing tours and currency. To do this they teamed up with Thomas Cook who would provide and operate the foreign exchange. It was essential that the agency opened ahead of the royal wedding to benefit from the increased numbers of tourists in the capital to see the event.

We were retained by Thomas Cook to pull the various strands together and make it all happen in time for the wedding.

How Design CLD responded to the challenge

Appointed in late February, our job involved melding three separate corporate identities, four desks and an ATM into a coherent look within the tiny 200 square foot octagonal space.

The concept drew some of the atmosphere of Covent Garden and Leicester Square to Charing Cross Road. We did this by fitting a twinkly starlight ceiling, illuminated theatrical posters and TV displays.
